As I drive around Portsmouth daily doing my job as a Realtor I have noticed a decided lack of something lately.
I hardly ever see any "For Sale By Owner" or "FSBO" signs anywhere. There used to be lots of them and you could depend on seeing a new crop every spring, just like the blooming of Dandelions in your yard.
So where did they all go?
According to the most recent statistics from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), a very significant percentage have given up trying to sell on their own and hired a Portsmouth Realtor to get the job done.
According to the NAR 2010 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, FSBO sales declined to less than 1 in 10 transactions in 2010 (around 9% of all sales), down from 1 in 7 in 2004.
AND in almost 50% of the successful transactions the seller knew the buyer beforehand; sort of one of those "If you ever want to sell this house I'll buy it" sort of sales.
In the difficult markets of the past few years we've been called on more and more to assist sellers in getting the job done.
So if you want to see a SOLD sign in your Portsmouth yard this year you might consider starting the process with one of these signs first.
Why? Because we're in the Portsmouth and Seacoast market every day and we successfully sell lots of houses using the most modern technology and professional agents combined with years of home selling experience.
