HAMPTON FALLS is located in Rockingham County and formerly known as the Third Parish in 1638. Originally part of Norfolk County, Massachusetts Colony until 1679 when is separated from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The town was granted independence in 1726. Once a farm and lumbering community located on the Taylor River it is now a residential community with businesses located on US Route 1.

The Taylor River which once provided water power for mills operating within the town runs between the town of Hampton and Hampton Falls. The two towns were connected by Old Stage Bridge which straddles the Taylor River was built in 1825. Repairs were done in 1875 and 1895 and the bridge was rebuilt in 1897. The bridge fell into disrepair and was closed to traffic in 1998. Discussion talks began in 2002 when a young boy was injured on the bridge. A group of local citizens got together and began working with the two towns to rebuild the historic landmark. The town of Hampton Falls voted in 2007 to officially appoint a committee to help with reconstruction of the bridge. The bridge was constructed by volunteers and donated materials by local residents and businesses and at no cost to the taxpayers. The new covered bridge was dedicated on December 2009 and is now open to foot and bicycle traffic only.
